1330 Korea Travel Helpline: English Help by Phone or Chat

For English-language help with a Korea travel question, dial 1330 while in Korea, or open the online chat from the official VISITKOREA 1330 page. From overseas, the listed telephone number is +82-2-1330. Chat is a practical starting point if your travel eSIM has data but no ordinary voice calling. For an emergency in Korea, use 112 for police or 119 for fire or ambulance assistance instead of waiting for tourism chat.

Choose a channel before you start

The Korea Tourism Organization describes 1330 as a travel information, interpretation and tourist-complaint service. Use it for a focused question, not as a substitute for a confirmed booking or an emergency response.

The emergency numbers above are also listed in the UK government’s South Korea travel advice. Do not spend time composing a tourism inquiry when urgent assistance is needed.

Open chat without relying on a voice-enabled SIM

  1. Open the official 1330 service page and find Online Chat.
  2. Choose 1330 Messenger, which the page labels as requiring no download, or a listed messaging service you already use. Follow the current on-screen language and connection prompts.
  3. Send one specific question with the city, place name and travel date. If the question involves a route, include both your starting point and destination.
  4. Save the useful answer and any official operator link. Before buying a ticket or changing a reservation, confirm the final conditions with the operator or seller.

The same page offers an online voice option and specifies Wi-Fi for a free call. That does not mean an ordinary mobile or international telephone call is free: check your own calling, roaming and data terms. A data-only plan should not be assumed to support a normal 1330 phone call.

Three messages you can adapt

These are hypothetical examples, not accounts of calls we made. Replace the bracketed details; a narrow question gives the adviser a clearer task than sending your entire itinerary.

NeedSuggested opening message
Check a route“English, please. I am at [station and exit] in [city]. I want to reach [Korean place name] on [date]. Which stop should I use for the final connection?”
Resolve a language problem“I need help understanding a travel-related conversation at [place]. The issue is [one sentence]. Can you advise how interpretation can be arranged?”
Report a tourism problem“I would like guidance on a tourist complaint about [business or service] on [date]. I have the receipt and a short timeline. What is the correct next step?”

Keep the Korean address or station name alongside the English name. For a time-sensitive query, say whether “today” means the date in Korea. Ask the adviser to repeat an unfamiliar stop name in writing when that is possible. Do not send passwords, payment-card details or unrelated identity documents with an opening inquiry.

Availability and limits to keep in mind

English is among the service languages in Hanam City’s official 1330 guide. Published hours are not consistent across official guidance: Hanam lists round-the-clock English availability, while the UK travel advice describes a 07:00–midnight interpretation window. Check the current connection prompt and do not depend on an immediate reply, particularly late at night.

For a complaint, keep the receipt, date, business name and a factual sequence of events. KTO’s published process routes complaints for investigation; submitting one is not a promise of a refund or a particular outcome. Contact the booking provider directly when a cancellation deadline is approaching rather than assuming a tourism inquiry pauses it.

Save the 1330 page before your day trip. If you still need to decide how to get online, the Korea eSIM, SIM and pocket Wi-Fi guide covers connection choices; this guide covers what to do once you need human travel help.
